Practical help for aging or unused oil tanks.
Check Oil provides tank abandonment, tank removal, and soil-testing services for a range of residential oil-tank situations.

Serving customers from 701 North Division Street in Peekskill.
A clear path for oil-tank work
The right approach depends on the tank, its location, access, and what is found around it.
Tank abandonment
Our tank-abandonment process includes removing oil, sludge, and water for transfer to a waste facility; filling the tank with sand or pea gravel; disconnecting and removing vent piping; and filling the excavation with soil.
Tank removal
Check Oil offers removal and disposal for aboveground and underground tanks, including tanks located in basements and crawlspaces. The team can help locate a tank and review the access and removal plan.
Soil testing
Soil samples can help identify petroleum contamination around an underground tank. Collected samples are sent to an independent accredited analytical laboratory for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon testing, and written results are provided.

Understand the rules that apply to your property
The EPA explains that heating-oil tanks used on the premises are generally excluded from federal underground-storage-tank rules, but state or local requirements may still apply. Requirements vary, so the project scope should be reviewed against the rules for the property's location.
Concerned about a possible release?
Odors, oily residue, petroleum odors in water, or testing results can indicate a possible release. Avoid disturbing the area and contact the appropriate state or local agency and a qualified environmental professional promptly.
